Hello everyone! Christina here with my very first Mixed Media layout since I’ve been on the HKC design team. I always wanted to try the Color Kits, so I was very excited when I received my March 2019 Color Kit last week, and let me tell you: it’s beau-ti-ful!
Before I forget, today’s topic is “Birthday”, but because I forgot to take a photo on my actual birthday, I used a snapshot of me and my husband that we took in our hotel room in Munich, and since I got this shopping weekend for my birthday, I guess this counts as a birthday layout, right…?
But first of all, here it is:
I started by dipping a firm stippling brush lightly into the Cotton Candy Starburst Shimmer Spray and randomly dabbed some polka dots on my white cardstock. While the color was drying, I fussy cut the top part from the Maggie Holmes “Apple Blossom” paper from the March 2019 Main Kit. My original plan was to use only this on my layout, but then decided to also use some more of this beautiful paper on the bottom of my page, because I thought this would give a nice “fluent” effect.
To mat my photo, I used various light pink patterned papers from the Main Kit, and even “upgraded” one by lightly painting some Opal Magic Acrylic Paint from the February 2019 Color Kit on the bottom gingham paper. I find that it matches the Maggie Holmes patterned paper perfectly and adds a subtle shimmer accent to the layout!
To finish up my page, I added some elements from the Maggie Holmes Summertime Phrase Thickers sheets and some Hip Kit Club Exclusive Ephemera pieces. The “Explore” title follows the contour of the fussy cut paper, same as my journaling, and the sunglasses and the umbrella represent the weather changes we had during the weekend. And of course, I also used the Cotton Candy Starburst Shimmer Spray for some finishing splatters!
That’s it for today, my scrappy friends. I hope you like my layout and that I could inspire you to grab your paints and sprays!
XOXO
Christina
