Valentine’s Day is now behind us, with those chalky tooth-cracking conversation hearts getting staler by the day, but the Hip Kit Club January kits contain enough hearts to last through next Valentine’s Day — and possibly beyond that!
There are hearts galore on this page about how loving my daughter means loving her penchant for puns. In keeping with the topic (and prompted by the lobster on the wall behind my daughter in the photo), I included a few puns in the journaling, highlighting them using the kit alphabets. Some of the hearts on the layout come from the kit accents — like the Vicki Boutin watercolor stickers, the Pinkfresh Studio puffy heart stickers, and the Crate Paper Main Squeeze ephemera — while I hand-cut others from the kit papers. Piece by piece, I stitched the shapes to form a garland, which I placed on the seam where the photo meets the journaling.
The black cardstock from the cardstock kit really makes those colors pop. One of my favorite things to do with dark cardstock is to write on it with white gel ink — I love the look!
On the left side of the layout, I included a few patterned strips that repeat the bright red and pink found in the alphabets on the other side of the page, creating a visual triangle in the process. So don’t be shellfish in hoarding those hearts — put them to use on your next page! Valentine’s Day may be over, but the heart accent is timeless.
