Happy New Year everyone! This is Michelle Wedertz here with you and I am so excited to be kicking off 2018 as a new member of the Hip Kit Club Design Team! I simply adore working with the beautiful kits and it is an honor to be here! Today I am sharing my first project that I made with the December 2017 Main Kit only.

In my opinion, the biggest asset to the main kit is the patterned paper. Paper is always the foundation of any project that I create and it is the first thing that I look at when deciding what direction I want to take my layout in.  For this particular project, I really wanted to create a layered patterned paper background to place my photo on. Working with layers is an easy way to incorporate lots of “stuff”—in this case paper—as well as giving me some easy places to work pieces of the Crate Paper ephemera in.

The ephemera pack is full of some really great pieces, but the large pink journaling tag was the gem! Since purchasing a used typewriter last year, I am always looking for things I can type my journaling on and this one had lots of room. The tag was so big that I was able to re-type my journaling a second type on a different part of the tag after I made a mistake during the first try (I can’t type and participate in conversations at the same time!)

To counteract the busy layers and to keep the focus on the photo, I opted for some simple embellishing with the beautifully stitched stars and fun epoxy stickers from the December Main Kit. My final detail was to machine stitch a border around the layout and I was finished. Creating this layout was really a quick endeavor and it was just what I needed to jump back into creating after a hectic holiday schedule!
