Hello and welcome everyone! Starting the new term, some posting changes have been made. Mondays are now dedicated to mixed media techniques – especially focusing on the beautiful color add-ons that we get each month. Missy, Jessica, and Bea will be joining you today to show you three different ways to use up your colors!

Hey, friends! Missy here, and I’m so excited to be back here at Hip Kit Club for another term! My layout today features the August 2017 Hip Kits. I used one of Kimberly’s cut files, some fun mixed media and lots of Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Carousel collection. I used the scalloped border piece from Kimberly’s cut file set and made square frames with it. I made them small and cut them on a few different patterned papers. I used a Pink Paislee patterned paper from the Main Kit and Paper Kit as my background and covered a big part of it with white acrylic paint first. Then I used the Shimmerz from the Color Kit along with the Echo Park stencil. I also used a few gelatos from my stash to add a few different shades of color. I added lots of embellishments including some of the exclusive wood veneer buttons, lots of Crate Paper Ephemera Die Cuts and Puffy Stickers from the Main Kit as well as those cute little pom poms and tangled thread.
I split my photo strip so I could add this “sweet” die cut as my title. I used some of the Project Life cards and exclusive die cut frames as layers here along with the die cuts. All of these colors are just so yummy together!
I decided to create a fun little cluster over to the left side using more Project Life cards, Crate Paper Die Cuts, a scalloped frame and more. I also created a fun banner and machine stitched through it. Those Crate Paper Banner Stickers are my favorite! They are in the Project Life Kit.
Here’s another look at the left side of the photo strip. Everything in these kits just works so well together, and I love how this turned out! My silly child makes my photo taking so much fun…haha!
I hope you enjoyed this…be sure to check out my process video so you can see how I created the background and built the layout.
Thank you so much for stopping by, and have a great week!!

Hey guys! Are you enjoying your August Hip Kits? Because I sure do. I am always wondering about how to get the most out of my color kits – and I find that I just can’t help but grabbing past kit colors, too. So this is my idea for today: Mix old and new! Here’s what I created:
Since we get beautiful Shimmerz products, I decided to use them all. Don’t believe me? Here’s what I did: I added the paints into white texture paste. This lightened up the JILTED JADE color. With the yellow DAFFODIL Creameez color I used clear Gesso to keep the nice and vibrant color.
Just look at the beautiful exclusive fonts. I seriously couldn’t get enough of them this month and I tried to use them as much as I could – and I found that I started to hort the pink thickers. Evil me, I know! But I loved how the pink pops here against the minty blue wheras the navy pops on the magenta color. By the way, I used a mixture of Impasto paints here; Heather and Crimson to achieve that vibrant and strong color! I also used these colors mixed with white on other parts of the layout to guide the eye across my page.
For the lighter pink shades I mixed the Shimmerz mist SWEETHEART with white texture paste and clear Gesso – it was such a joy to mix them both and see what happens to the color in general. I love experimenting with my media!
I didn’t notice it at first but it looks like the exclusive project life card was designed for this layout, right? I just can’t help but keep coming back to bright and bold colors, they speak to me. I wanted a dreamy colorful explosion to help enhance the picture.
I hope you have enoyed my mixed media interpretation and I hope you’ll mix your older supplies with new supplies in the near future, too! You’ll find that you have unlimited options to make use of your beautiful color kits!

Hey Girls! I’m so happy to be here and start a new term with Hip Kit Club. Let me share with you my first layout I created using the beautiful August Kits. These kits are jam-packed with lovely papers and embellishments from the Carousel collection and have a kind of carnival atmosphere to them.
I started my layout with a cut file designed by Kimberly. I love the beautiful floral design, arranged them in a wreath form and cut them out from watercolor paper. Painted around the flowers with watercolor, and backed the flowers’ petals with patterned paper from the Carousel collection. During I selected the papers, I used the beloved ‘color on color’ technique.
I arranged my photo of my little girl in the middle and chose the pretty ‘sweet’ ephemera piece for my title. I fussy cut flowers from the Belle patterned paper and placed next to my photo. I framed the photo with the beautiful glittered ephemera frame from the Maggie Holmes collection. I absolutely love the card stock sticker banner, and can not resist using on my layout.
I hope this layout has inspired you today, thanks for stopping by, Bea
