Cut Files & Mixed Media | Missy Whidden

Happy Monday, friends!  Missy here, and I’m just thrilled to be sharing my first layout using the new 2017 March Hip Kits!  Gorgeous doesn’t even begin to cover these goodies.  As soon as I saw this beautiful subscriber cut file designed by Kim Watson, I knew I had to use it on a layout.  I envisioned all those swirly clouds with some sun rays behind them.  I cut the clouds on white cardstock and then backed a lot of them with patterned papers from the Main Kit & Paper Kit and a few of the Project Life cards.  I also backed a few with vellum.  For my background, I drew some sun rays by tracing a sunburst stencil I have in my stash.  I used some of the new Shimmerz  Paste-eez from the Color Kit and mixed in some of the white AcriTonez from last month’s Color Kit and painted the rays in with a brush.  I embellished with die cuts and stickers.

I just love how this turned out!  I added fun foam adhesive under the cut file to raise it up and what a different it made!  Look at the shadowing and depth…I just love it.  I added that adorable die cut bird from the Dear Lizzy die cuts, and I fussy cut the word “LOVE” from one of the Shimelle patterned papers.

I machine stitched along the edges of all the rays using yellow thread.  This gives the rays a more crisp edge and adds some fun texture to the page.  I added a cute cloud sticker, which is from the Shimelle sticker sheet.

This beautiful floral sticker is also from the Shimelle sticker sheet, and I paired it with some of the Pinkfresh Studio bits…one of the Rubber Charms and one of the Leatherette Stickers.  I hand cut a tiny flower from the orange Project Life card to bring some of that color to this side of the layout.  I also used that beautiful Oh My Heart pink die cut frame as a layer behind the photo.

Here’s another shot of the cut file and the dimension.

I did add more watercolor behind my photo using more Shimmerz products from previous kits.  I used some blues, aquas and pinks to create some splotches and splatters peeking out from behind the photo.  I created my title using the fussy cut letters and that adorable die cut from Oh My Heart.  That little camera is from the Dear Lizzy die cuts pack.

Here’s my process video if you’d like to watch how I made this mixed media heavy layout.  It was surely a lot of fun to make!  I hope you get some ideas from it.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Enjoy your Monday!
