Mixed Media & Cut Files with Missy

Happy Monday once again!  It’s Missy, and I’m so excited to share my first layout using the 2016 December Hip Kits!  As always, they are super pretty, and I couldn’t wait to get to creating with them.  I decided to start with a bright and bold background, so I went with this beautiful coral patterned paper from the Take Me Away collection by Paige Evans.  I used this beautiful flower cluster wreath cut file designed by Kim Watson as my main design element, and I used papers from the Main Kit & Paper Kit to back some of the flowers.  I used white gesso on my background and then came in with some pink and light purple Shimmerz spray from my stash as well as the Heidi Swapp Sweet Mint Color Shine from the Color Kit.  I also used the Echo Park Stencil from the Color Kit with some of the Shimmerz Coral Me Crazy Dazzlerz from the October Color Kit to create some beautiful texture.

I love how the cut file turned out.  I used some green Shimmerz from my stash to paint the leaves a pretty Spring green color.  Here you can see how beautiful the texture is.  I was so excited to see some purple in the kits this month!  I added this exclusive purple label die cut here and then came in with some of the Take Me Away sequins in yellow and purple from the Main Kit.

Here’s a closer look at the cut file again.  It does have a lot of small pieces, so I wouldn’t cut it super small.  This size worked out okay.  I added some tissue paper and Take Me Away die cuts under my photo strip and then layered a fun ampersand and tangled thread right on top of it.  I also added a few pieces of the pretty glittery turquoise American Crafts tape from the Embellishment Kit.

Lots of layering going on here…this cute tag is another Take Me Away piece.  The exclusive die cuts are so cute and versatile…like this “Details” tab.  They’re in the Project Life Kit.  The gorgeous gold acrylic pieces are from My Mind’s Eye, and they’re in the Embellishment Kit.

I think this ampersand brought a little bit of color & interest to my photos without covering up anything important.  That’s the fun part about having extra space or white space in your photos.  You can use embellishments over them sometimes!

I love how the cut file curled up here.  It gives it a lot of dimension.  I also added some foam under my photos, so that helped raise up the edge of the cut file.  I added in some bright pink tangled thread for an extra pop of color.  You can also see some of the sequins peeking out.

I really like how my title turned out.  This is an Amy Tangerine Thicker that I colored with some pink Shimmerz and Sweet Mint Color Shine.  I also brought in some of the gold Color Shine from my stash. I layered one of the MME acrylic shapes on top of it.  I love the mix of the fonts!  My journaling fit perfectly underneath it all.

Here’s my process video if you’d like to check it out.  I hope you are inspired in some way!

Thank you so much for stopping by today!  Have a wonderful week!

  1. Love this so beautiful!!!! Where can I find the cut file with flower cluster wreath?

  2. Love your layouts. I watch all your YouTube videos. Question, I don’t see the cut file as part of the December Kit. Is that something that is purchased separately ? TIA

  3. Missy you are my inspiration! I’ve always hesitated to do mixed media but after watching your videos I’ve tried it and love it. Thank you!!
