Make a Faux Snow Globe | Kim Watson

This year we decided to give handmade Christmas gifts. It is a super way to get the children involved and makes Christmas more personal & less commercial. I had this idea for little girl gifts some months ago…so started collecting empty jars in preparation. The arrival of the festive & uber colorful November Hip Kits, meant I could start creating! Here is one of them, destined for a little girl called Callan, who I know will totally love it!

Faux Snow Globe by Kim Watson

To make this you will need:

  • A clean & dry glass jar with a wide mouth
  • A colored lid to avoid having to cover it in paper
  • A variety of patterned paper
  • A mixture of colored sequins
  • Ephemera from the Hip Kit exclusives found in the Nov kits
  • A paper star (mine was from the December Documented kit)
  • Puffy Stickers from the Nov Embellishment kit
  • Various punches/ dies
  • Twine
  • Cotton balls
  • Mini pom-poms
  • Paper sentiment
  • Hot glue gun

So the top of the jar isn’t left plain, I die cut a large snowflake in white & topped it with a fun glittery star. Attached is a tag cut from patterned paper & decorated with a die cut bow, puffy stickers & a paper sentiment from the Exclusive Hip Kit Club Phrase Sheets designed by our own Kimberly Hutchinson.

Inside the jar, I created a sweet snowy scene adhering everything to the inside of jar’s lid using hot glue. The layered & machine stitched tree adds great dimension & sparkle from the sequin tree ornaments and acts as a background for the little snowman, who is surrounded by tiny mushrooms & mini pom-poms.

To finish off the bottom of the jar, I added a paper strip & turquoise bakers twine. Tying it a couple of times before adding the bow, adds subtle interest & texture. And it is as easy as that! With a little patience & creative flair you can make one for every little girl on your Christmas gift list. I have made 5 of these cute little jar gifts so far…they look so adorable waiting for wrapping.

I admit given they are so cute, it is going to be hard to let them go.

Thanks so much for stopping by! If you make some for yourself, remember to post them in our Hip Kit Club Community gallery on FB. We would LOVE to see them <3
