DIY Scrapbook Embellishments – 3 Easy Projects

How to Make DIY Scrapbook Embellishments

DIY scrapbook embellishments are handmade decorative pieces you create from leftover supplies, die cuts, stickers, and paper scraps. Making your own embellishments saves money, reduces waste, and adds a personal touch that store-bought pieces cannot match. Whether you layer die cuts with puffy stickers or combine ephemera with hand-stamped tags, the possibilities are endless.

Hey Everyone! I am back with 3 SUPER FUN projects using the August 2016 Hip Kits!

I began with the task of creating DIY Embellishments, which I ended up using on my PL spread this week. I used my big shot to die cut a few pieces using the Paper Kit, and simply used stickers, ephemera, and a bow clip to layer on top of pre-cut tags or a PL cards. This is a great way to use leftover product or perfect for creating a filler card for your PL Spread!

I used ephemera from the Main Kit as well as the Embellishment Kit, and stickers from the PL Kit for this project!

For my second project, I created a simple layout using that beautiful woodgrain paper from the Crate Paper “Cute Girl” collection. I love this paper so much, so it was quite hard to use the entire sheet up—but y’all know woodgrain is my fave!

I simple placed my photo down on the page, next to the 3×4 card from the “Oh Happy Life” collection and then began to embellish. I had no plan for this other than the fact that I wanted it to be heavy on embellishments!

I used a floral cute file created by Ashley Horton, along with several pieces from Amy Tangerine’s “Oh Happy Life” ephemera pack that came in our Main Kit.

Lastly, I used puffy stickers from Crate Paper’s “Cute Girl” collection and both sets of Thickers are from our Main Kit.

For my 3rd and final project, I created a PL spread for week 6.

I used several of the PL cards from this month’s PL kit and went to town on embellishing. My favorite part has to be the few DIY embellishments that were created for my first project! It was super easy just to add that quick filler card, as well as a few clustered embellishments all around my spread.

I hope y’all love these projects as much as I loved creating them!

Tips for DIY Scrapbook Embellishments

  • Layer die cuts with stickers and ephemera to build dimension and visual interest on tags or filler cards.
  • Use leftover paper scraps and product packaging as a base for handmade embellishments instead of throwing them away.
  • Add chipboard or puffy stickers on top of flat pieces to create texture that catches the eye.
  • Coordinate colors across your handmade pieces by pulling from the same kit or color palette.
  • Store finished DIY embellishments in small bags or containers so they are ready for your next project.
