Fun with Ephemera…and Froyo | Andrea Bethke

Hi Everyone! It’s Andrea again, and today we will be having some fun with ephemera and the July Hip Kit Club kits! First, let’s talk a little about ephemera. I love ephemera! I am always using ephemera in my scrapbooking.

There are a few different kinds of ephemera. There is the kind that you get from the places you go…like a ticket from a movie you went to, a map from Disneyland, a menu from your fave restaurant, that sort of thing. Then there is the kind you collect that reflects the things you like to do and your style…like me, I like to collect vintage ephemera like antique and retro Valentines Day and Christmas cards, and also vintage Disney ephemera. And then there is the kind of ephemera that comes in a scrapbook collection. This is a kind of “faux” ephemera, if you will, but I love it just as much as the other kinds and it is always the embellishment in a scrapbook collection or kit that I find myself using the most! I was super excited this month to see that both the July Main Hip Kit and the Project Life Kit had exclusive ephemera packs in them!

So today I want to share with you a scrapbook layout and a pocket page that I made for my project life album using lots of ephemera! I wanted to document a recent trip my hubby and I made to our fave Froyo place! I wanted to use ephemera from both of the July kits and a couple pieces of actual ephemera from the Froyo place. Project Life albums are a perfect place for your ephemera — they help complete the story of your daily life along with your pictures.

Anyways, I wanted to use the different kinds of ephemera in different ways. As you can see, some I used like stickers, some I clustered up, some I doodled on, and some I layered. I decided to add some stitching to some of my ephemera layers and clusters too.

And, as you can see, I also did some hand stitching on my page with a large heart embellishment I made, with some criss-crossed blue thread and a piece of the Bella Blvd patterned paper from the kit, in order to reflect the “good life” ephemera in the adjoining pocket page.

I layered some of the exclusive Hip Kit ephemera up underneath a picture on my layout to show you how ephemera can also be used as a kind of mat for your pics.

The ephemera in the kits can be used flat, or you can pop them up to add more dimension, like the little ephemera flower on my page that I popped up with foam dots on top of a button to make a really cool, dimensional embellishment.

I also want to point out how I used my “found” ephemera as well — as you can see, I used the little “Mickey’s Froyo” advertisement by just slipping it into a pocket. I added the “oh what fun” ephemera piece from the exclusive ephemera pack in the main kit and a little bow paperclip from the kit to just add some more interest to my found ephemera.

And for the small “Mickey’s Froyo” card, I just added it to my exclusive Hip Kit Project Life journaling card (where I wrote my fave froyo flavors) with another one of those cute bow paperclips from American Crafts. This way, it is easily removeable — a kind of interactive element in your project life album. I hope that I have inspired you to use some ephemera in your Project Life Scrapbooking today and that you will have as much fun with the exclusive Hip Kit July ephemera packs as I did!
