Two Layouts | Missy Whidden

Happy Tuesday to you!  Missy here.  I have two fun layouts to share using the 2015 September Hip Kits!  I cannot get enough of these amazing products…they are truly beautiful!  I have really been enjoying all the bold blues and yellows this month.  For my first page, I used one of the cut files from the August Cut File Set designed by Kim Watson.  I made the heart circle into a few different sizes and cut them on four different patterned papers from the Main Kit.  I used a wide strip of that gorgeous yellow heart paper from Dear Lizzy and then went over the entire background with some white gesso.  I used some of the Lemon Zest Dylusions Paint from the August Color Kit to create the yellow background circles.  I also used some of the Lemon Twist Paint Dabber from the May Color Kit mixed with some water to create a watercolor effect.

I used a few Project Life cards as layers behind my photo and stitched around every circle.  Some of the smaller ones got really messy…I’m not the best at sewing in circles!  I also used a lot of the Dear Lizzy Rub-Ons around the page.

These die cuts are so fun to play with, and I love all the blues mixed together here.  I just had to add in this “hello” rub-on…the color is just beautiful, and I love how it curves around the circle just perfectly.  I also added in one of those shiny gold heart Thickers.

Another angle of one of the die cuts, rub-ons and background work.  I used the same circle stencil to trace the black circles here that I used to make the yellow circles.

I heat embossed this gorgeous wood veneer.  I used gold embossing powder from my stash, and I love how sparkly it turned out.  I layered one of the wood chips under my photo and added that beautiful blue flower bouquet die cut.

Here’s my process video if you’d like to see how this layout was created from start to finish.

For my second page, I challenged myself to not use any of the royal blue elements in the kits.  I decided to scrap a 4-wheeler ride photo, so I wanted to use more of the wood grains and yellows in the kits.  I started with the wood grain patterned paper from Dear Lizzy and smudged some white gesso on it.  I use lots of gelatos and spray inks to create a watercolor effect.  I cut one of the awesome September Cut Files on some of the light yellow cardstock and used it as a layer  under my photo.  I also used a lot of the Dear Lizzy Rub-Ons (from the Project Life Kit) as well as some of the Crate Paper Wonder chipboard pieces from the Embellishment Kit.

I used a bit of the Lemon Twist Paint Dabber again on this one through the American Crafts lined stencil and then added some gold and pink ink splatters.  I just love the rich pink color of this heart rub-on…and I love it mixed in with the teals and yellows.

This little Amy Tan die cut was the perfect addition here.  I love the gold foil, and I added even more with some gold stitching.  Luckily I had some of the perfect dark pink thread in my stash, so I added some in here for another pop of color.  I also backed that cute camera piece with the yellow cardstock.

I was excited to use that awesome Crate Paper chipboard frame around my photo.  I fussy cut “do what you love” from one of the Project Life cards…it matches perfectly!  I love using those cards on my layouts in some shape or form.
