My Little Mermaid | Missy Whidden

Hey there!  Missy back with you today.  I’m really excited to share my first layout using the 2015 July Hip Kits!  They are gorgeous, as always, and full of fun colors.  I couldn’t resist scrapping a fun pool photo right away.  I thought these colors looked really nice against the soft kraft cardstock, so that’s where I began.  I used the Heidi Swapp stencil in the Color Kit with some modeling paste and then came over that with some white gesso.  Next, I used some teal ink spray mixed with the Twisted Citron Distress Ink and got some really pretty shades.  I also added a bit of yellow gelato in the mix.  I cut some of the chevron arrows from the October Afternoon paper and also some of the Simple Stories Paper Tape Strips.  I stitched them all down and then began building my layers and embellishments.

I used a lot of the Crate Paper Poolside chipboard around my photo.  There really is so much to choose from…it’s hard to pick which items to use first!  I love how these colors look against the teal background.

I used a Project Life card down here under the title, which I tore and layered over a chipboard frame.  I stitched it all down and added a cute Heidi Swapp wood veneer arrow (which I colored with the Abandoned Coral Distress Paint from the Color Kit) and an OA puffy heart sticker.

I just had to use that cute chipboard umbrella, and the color was perfect.  I layered in another little frame and one of the OA flair pins along with some tangled thread.

Here’s a closer look at the mixed media work…I love the watercolor effect.  The key to all these colors not mixing together (for me) is to dry them in between each coat.  Sometimes I like them to blend, like the teal and the Citron…it made a gorgeous color!

And one last close-up of the title area.  I combined that cute Crate Paper chipboard banner with the OA alphas and the kraft Thickers.  I love mixing and matching alphas…plus, I love that they are different sizes.

You can check out my process video if you’d like to see how this layout came together.  Thanks so much for watching!

Have a wonderful Tuesday!
