Dream Big- Kim Watson

Hey friends… I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be able to finally share a page with you, I created using the 2015 February Main kit. Living in South Africa, means my kits take a little longer to get to me, but it was worth the wait….it is GORGEOUS!!

When playing with the patterned papers on my desk, I was immediately drawn to the doors paper. Firstly, isn’t it seriously cool & secondly, isn’t the paper quality super interesting? It lends itself to mixed media & is substantial enough to withstand water, ink, gesso & other ‘wet’ treatments.

It spoke to me, sparking the following thoughts in my brain in reference to my 10 year old:

  • Future
  • Destiny
  • Open Doors
  • Life Choices
  • Colorful Memories
  • Growing up

These ideas came together, as this page 🙂

To start, I grabbed watercolor paints & licked some funky colors into the doors, giving them a cheerful vibe. Once dry, I cut them out & arranged them in an overlapping row creating a border for the journal block. The central page layout worked well here, allowing ones eye to travel down the page from the title, to the photograph & lastly resting on the journaling.

For the title I roughly cut ‘Dream Big’ from the We R Memory Keepers- Love Notes- Dear Diary paper, using a craft knife & doodled the edge in fine black marker for definition.

Now start layering. Add patterned paper, chipboard (from the 2015 February embellishment kit), puffy stickers, ephemera, enamel dots…creating fun clusters around the page.

Lastly splatter some bright yellow paint either side of the page for color balance & interest…and you are all done! I hope this has inspired you to try something similar.

Remember to join up to the Hip Kit Club Members Forum and post your beautiful pages there, so we can all enjoy your creativity & leave you some crafty-love.  Thanks so much for stopping by, have a great weekend!

  1. I absolutely love this, Kim! It is so bright and happy. Love how you used the doors paper and the thought behind your page.

  2. Love your page Kim, how you left an outline on the words, the way you combined the doors!
