December Daily 2012 Album… by Kimberly Hutchison…

Hi Everyone!

It is Kimberly here with you today, and I want to share a few photos from my December Daily 2012 Album that I am working on.  It is December 4th… and so far so good.  I have taken photos every day and am keeping a journal and have made the 1st few pages.

I challenge you to give this a try. All you need is a notebook to keep thoughts and details from each day, and a large envelope to keep memorabilia in (ticket stubs, airplane boarding passes, menus, receipts, lists, letters, etc…)  I am using an app on my phone that is similar to Instagram, to take photos each day.  I will print most of my photos in 3.5”x3.5” which is a great size for mini albums.  Since almost everyone has a phone with a decent camera – it makes this project so much more do-able…  because our phones are almost always in reaching distance.  If you have time…  this is a super fun project to work on throughout the month.  If time is sparse right now, just do keep your journal and gather memorabilia during the month and then you can put your book together after the new year.

As far as products…  You can gather any holiday products you have in your stash or your November Hip Kit has all kinds of wonderful goodies that are perfect for this project… and they can be combined with other products that have similar colors from other kits.  My book is being made from our December Daily Album Kit from last year in combination with our November Hip Kit from this year.  Most of what is done so far – has been created using our December Daily Kit from last year…  but I will definitely be using our November Kit in the very near future.

So, here is my book so far… (I took these photos with my Instagram App on my phone)

Album Cover (I am using an American Crafts 8×8 Mod Album that had a raw chipboard cover)

Dec 1 page 1

December 1st (left) – This page is mostly done…  I still need to print out my photo to finish this page.

Dec 1 page 2

December 1st (right) – I still need to add my photos and embellishments to finish this page.

Dec 2 page 1

December 2nd (left) – I am need to add something to the woodgrain strip along the right side of this page…  probably baker’s twine and a couple of buttons… or perhaps a photo-booth style film strip.

Dec 2 page 2

December 2nd (right) – I still need to print and add the photos to this page.

The album that I am using only had 8×8 page protectors…  and I wanted some that had pockets for various sized photos… So, I made my own.    I used the gridlines on my craft mat and a sharpie to draw guidelines on the page protectors so that I could machine stitch pockets.  I used my craft mat to cut slits in the pockets that were completely enclosed – I was really careful to only cut through the top layer.  It was a “make it work” moment.  This is what they look like…

This is a really great project to document your family holiday traditions – as well as to capture little everyday moments that might have otherwise been missed during this busy time of the year.  I hope you will consider giving it a try.  Just grab a notebook and an envelope and keep some kind of camera close by – and you are ready to go.  You can gather the pretty stuff later.  :D  I will continue to share my album and pages as I complete them.

Happy Holidays!!!  xo Kimberly
