August 2012 Hip Kit… Two sweet layouts by Kristin Kingrey…

Hi Everyone!

Kristin here with you today and I have some fun projects to share with you that I made with our August Hip Kit.  This kit is full of fun patterns both bold and subtle that will work perfectly with your favorite summer photos.  I really like the Studio Calico Heyday Collection Crush patterned paper.  There are so many different patterns and colors to draw from.  I cut out a couple sections of that paper to build my color scheme for my 1st layout..

I added just a bit of the Smash Washi tape from an earlier kit. I also used the barcode strip off of the Pebbles Sunnyside Tickled Pink paper to create the pink strip running across the center of my page.  I like how a lot of the manufacturers are making those strips into decorative accents on the reverse side.  This way nothing goes to waste.  :D  The American Crafts aqua ribbon with the white zig zag stitching is one of my faves!  It adds a great little detail to my layout.

I absolutely love polka dots!  When I have  several different papers with polka dots on them, I just love to mix & match them onto one layout.   Our August Hip Kit has tons of polka dots…  in addition to the cute papers I used on my next page, I also found a few butterflies with polka dots on one of the October Afternoon Woodland Park papers (can’t remember the name off hand).  I hand cut a couple of the butterflies and used them to embellish my layout.

The American Crafts Neapolitan Dreamy Days patterned paper is one of my favorites!!! The little Polaroids are so cute.  They are awesome for making little embellishments.  It didn’t hurt either, that there was a green polka dotted one!  ;D

As a finishing touch, I hand cut some of the flowers from the October Afternoon Gooseberry paper and combined them in a cluster with the chipboard flowers.   I arranged my embellishment cluster in a triangle.  Triangles on a layout help guide your eye throughout your entire page.  If you are having trouble with placing your embellishments, clustering them in groups of three is a great trick.

One last detail to share with you…  I cut the white bracket paper using my We R Memory Keepers Lucky 8 punch.  If you don’t have one of those, you can easily trace the shape from another decorative edge paper in your stash and then cut it out by hand.
