Hello friends! Anya’s here today and I am so excited to share a mini album I created with the June Hip Kit and step-by-step instructions on how to create a similar one. This album measures 5.5×8 and has a lot of pages where you could fit tons of photos. I’ll be sharing all the measurements that were used here, but you can always adjust them to make a smaller or larger album to fit your needs.

Want to create layouts like this? Our monthly kits include coordinated papers, embellishments, and supplies to bring your scrapbook pages to life.
To make an album cover, you need chipboard cardstock which I cut into 5 pieces: 8×4.5, 8×1.25, 8×5.5, 8×1.25, 8×4. Take two pieces of patterned papers that you would like to use for the cover, cut them at 9″ tall and connect both pieces with glue. Arrange all of the cut chipboard pieces with 1/16″ space between them as shown on the next photo. Adhere chipboard, leaving half inch all around. Trim Extra paper.

Next, trim the corners (leaving about 1/16″ of paper at the tip) fold all the paper at the edge and glue them down to the chipboard cover. After doing this step, your cover should look like this (if you like, you may add magnetic pieces at this point to be used as closures):

Trim white cardtock to 7.7/8″ tall and cover inside of the album. Using a scoring toll, score at each folding line. Work fast before glue dries, but be careful not to press too hard, cause you may tear the paper. Turn the cover to the other side and score at those fold lines again (this will help protect your paper from breaking). Fold the cover and check if white cardstock needs to be pressed again at any spots.

To create pages, I trimmed ten pieces of patterned paper to 7.7/8″ tall. Now, each piece needs to be scored and folded, adjusting size a little. Your album has five sections. You will be adding all of the pages to the middle portion of the album (section 3). I will give you score measurements for the first two pages, and you will create the rest of them in the similar way. My first page has three score lines and each section measures: 4″, 4.5″ 1″. You will be left with a section that measures 2.5″. Fold your paper and add glue to the 2.5″ section and adhere this page to the left of the middle part of the album, leaving 1/8″ from the fold line.

Fold next page in a similar way, but all of your measurements have to be from the other end of the patterned paper and you will adhere your piece to the right side of the middle section, again, leaving about 1/8″ from the fold line in the cover. Add the rest of the pages in a similar way, adjusting the size of the side bar section, reducing it about 1/16 or 1/8″ every time, depending on the amount of pages you are planning to use, or how bulky your decor will be.

When you create your album, you may change the size of the flaps, or you can make your pages without the flap. I like having flaps because they protect the corners on the pages and provide more spase for photos, stories and decorations. You can make any size album you want, simply following the same idea for folding pages and reducing the size of the side bar each time, so that all pages will nest nicely inside. After adding all of the pages, you may decorate the cover. Here’s what my mini album looks like:

I haven’t added any photos to this album yet, but here’s how the album looks like inside, after adding some photo mats and decorations:

On this page spread I made the flap only 3″ wide and turned it into a pocket, by adhering each end.

By reducing the side bar section by 1/8″ it gave me enough space to decorate this page spread with foam stickers, puffy stickers, flair and chipboard frames.

I hope you were inspired by todays project and will try making one of your own mini albums with your favorite Hip Kit! If you are a traveler, this June’s kit will be a perfect option for any travel album. I absolutely love the colors, patterns and docor pieces in this kit!
