WEEKLY CHALLENGE | MELANIE BAIER-GOESSL | AUGUST 2021 HIP KITS

Hello everyone, it is weekly challenge Friday today and we are working with peacock colours. That truly was a challenge for me since I usually prefer to use less colours on a layout. In addition to the colour challenge we were asked to use a sunburst design. I knew right away that I wanted to use these happy photos of my girls – they find a playground everywhere and make it their own. The colours in the pictures matched the peacock colours pretty well but I did not think that a sunburst design would work so I flipped it to a pie chart design. My pie chart pieces are now inverted sun rays.

I started by cutting out a blue section from the Vicki Boutin paper, then traced two pie chart wedges onto the fabulous speciality paper from Amy Tangerine, which you can find in the more paper add-on, as well as one of the Hip Kit Club exclusive papers. For the final wedge I knew straight away that I would use the stencil and yellow Catherine Pooler ink. I traced a wedge shape onto copy paper and carefully cut it out to create my own shape stencil, then layered the Simple Stories stencil over it and used a blending foam to apply the ink.

The beads in the project life kit really caught my eye so I had to have some on the layout. I created three rays by piercing holes every half inch and then stringing a random number of pearls in between the holes to make it more interesting.

Eventually, I placed my photos in each of my four pie chart wedges and embellished by colour. That part is always so fun, looking through all the gorgeous stickers and die cuts and finding just the right little finishing touches. Something was still missing though and I decided to mat two of my photos and fussy cut some of the flowers from that fabulous Vicki Boutin paper. This added some more texture and detail. The title then was a happy coincidence – the Amy Tangerine “wild” sticker has a green and an orange star which just sat perfectly in the centre of my design and I just needed to finish it off with the matching letter stickers. I adore the texture and sheen of those.

As an afterthought I added three more lines of machine stitching to highlight the sunray design. It was quite the challenge with all the dimension and the beads. I whish I had thought about it earlier, then I would have added a few more because it matches the design so well and gives an additional handmade touch.

Thank you so much for stopping by! I wish you a wonderful, happy and contented weekend with plenty of time to create everyday.

xx, Melanie
