July 2013 Hip Kit… Fun facts & amazing projects by Melissa Stinson…

Happy Friday!

Today I am sharing the last collection projects created by our guest designer, Melissa Stinson using our fabulous July Hip Kit & Add-On Kits.  Melissa has an amazing talent for creating layouts and cards that have a minimalist feel without looking bare or unfinished.  Her projects have subtle layering, texture and just the right embellishments to give her layouts and cards the perfect finishing touches.

Before, I share her projects – I thought I would share some fun facts about Melissa to give you all a  glimpse into where she finds her creative inspiration and some other interesting tidbits about her life.  I am so thankful that Melissa found time in her busy schedule to create such inspiring projects with our July kit.  xo – Kimberly –

  1. When did you start scrapbooking?  Right after I graduated from high school. My parents bought me a camera as a graduation gift, and soon after that I found myself in the scrapbooking aisle at Michaels, looking for something fun to do with all the pictures I was taking.
  2. What are your 3 favorite tools? My ATG gun (LOVE how much adhesive it holds!), Rotatrim trimmer, and plastic rulers for lining up titles.
  3. As you scrap, is your workspace neat or messy? It’s very messy while I’m scrapping, but I like to clean it up between projects and start each one with a clean surface.
  4. What are you top 5 scrapbooking products?
    1. Enamel dots (a new love!)
    2. Patterned paper
    3. Printed chipboard
    4. Wood embellishments
    5. Decorative brads.
  5. Where do you find your inspirations for projects? Lately I’ve been finding lots of inspiration in ads and art. I keep a Pinboard of things I find inspiring to use as jumping off points for future layouts.
  6. Five random fun facts about yourself…
    1. · I have a second degree black belt in Taekwondo.
    2. · My degree is in Computer Science and I work as a software engineer, but in the last few years I’ve learned that I also have an artsy side!
    3. · I love playing video games, but my husband has to play through the harder parts for me sometimes. J
    4. · I’d rather read the book than watch the movie. Unless the movie involves lots of explosions. Or David Tennant.
    5. · I’m a habitual multitasker. You’ll very rarely find me doing fewer than two things at once.
  7. What is your favorite all time movie? Star Wars!
  8. What are your top 3 tv shows?  Doctor Who, Burn Notice and Stargate, though Elementary is fast becoming a new favorite, too!
  9. Sweet or salty? Most definitely sweet!
  10.  What is your favorite color combination? At the moment it’s aqua + yellow.
  11.  What is your favorite technique right now? Misting using stencils.
  12.  What is your favorite scrapbook trend at the moment? Embellishment clusters.
  13.  What was the last book you read? Star Wars: Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn
  14.  What is your favorite adhesive? Scotch ATG. It’s so economical!
  15.  What is your preferred page size and why? 8.5×11 or 12×12? 12×12 just because I’m so used to working with those dimensions, but I like to try 8.5×11 when I need a change.
  16.  Cardstock, what is your preference? Bright and bold colors or light and neutral colors? I like to use neutrals so that the colors in the patterned papers and photos can really pop!
  17.  Do you like using patterned paper or cardstock as the background for your layouts? I’d say it’s about an even split.
  18.  Black & white, color, wallets, collage, instagram… what is your favorite photo format? I like color prints, but in small sizes on my traditional layouts. I use Lightroom to resize and print most of my photos. For Project Life, I also like to make lots of little collages.
  19.  Do you use stamps on your layouts? Yes, when I remember to! They can add perfect little accents and finishing touches.
  20.  Handwritten journaling or computer journaling? On my traditional layouts I always write by hand, but for Project Life I use the computer to print on journaling cards.
  21.  What are a few of your favorite computer fonts? Traveling Typewriter is my go-to for journaling, and I love Pacifico for making die cuts on my Silhouette.
  22.  What are your 3 favorite manufacturers? Oh, so hard to choose! And it changes by the day. Right now it’s Basic Grey (I adore the new Capture line and their Waterfall Theme Packs), October Afternoon, and Fancy Pants. And of course I adore the companies that I design for, too- it goes without saying that they are also in my favorites!
