October 2012 Hip Kit… Halloween cards by Kimberly Hutchison…

Hi Everyone!

It is Kimberly here with you tonight.  Since Halloween is just a few days away -  I want to jump ahead just a bit and share a  few fun cards that I made with our festive October 2012 Hip Kit.  I had so much fun playing with all of the goodies in this kit – there are so many things to choose from – but for these cards I wanted to focus on using some of the “Halloween” themed products.  Here is what I came up with…

Cat Card

For this card I used one of the October Afternoon Miscellany postcards & die cuts.  The sentiment was part of a larger die cut that had a cat peeking around it.  I only wanted to use the sentiment, so I cropped the cat from it and cut it down so that it would fit on the postcard.  I used a border punch to create the pinked edge at the bottom of the die cut.  Sometimes when you have pieces that you aren’t quite sure what to do with…  you just need to think outside the box and alter them a bit so that they will work on your project.

Witch Card

This is a really simple card using a few more Witch Hazel Miscellany die cuts.  I distressed the edges of the witch and the cat with brown ink so that it would show up better against the neutral background.  I added dimension by using pop dots behind the witch.  The sentiment was from the Witch Hazel Word Stickers that were included in our October Embellishment Add-On Kit.  To finish my card I added a little machine stitching and a couple of Witch Hazel Chip n’ Stick stars.

I know that a lot of you may be stumped as to how to use the postcards included in your kits.  They are awesome for cards and can easily be incorporated into your layouts.  For this card, I matted this postcard onto grey polka dot paper and added a strip of the orange & white chevron stripe paper.  The baker’s twine gave my card a bit of texture.  I wanted the sentiment sticker to stand out a little more – so I added a pinked circle punched out of black cardstock and put a foam square behind it to make it “POP”.  The tiny “boo” sticker was a perfect finishing touch.

Thanks for stopping by today !  I hope that my cards have inspired you to create a few Halloween projects before the “big day”.  :D  Make sure to share your creations with us on our Facebook page – we love to see your work!  We will have another great project created with our September Hip Kit to share with you tomorrow  – so make sure to come back and check it out.  xo – Kimberly –
